~ Coach / Bike fitter ~
Mat studied music at the prestigious Trinity College of Music in London, earning his BMus (Hons) in 2009. Upon graduating, Mat went on to have a successful freelance career as a professional Trombonist in London, before an injury to his back forced him into early retirement. This led to a seamless transition into the world of coaching, cycling and more specifically, bike fitting.
Having worked within road cycling and triathlon for the past 8+ years and as a specialist bike fitter for the past 3 years, Mat has well over 1,000 bike fits under his belt ranging from professional Ironman athletes and cyclists to those who are just starting out. Educating each rider on how their body interacts with the bike and how we can all strive for more efficient movement is at the core of Mat’s bike fitting philosophy and he can be found applying his trade at the Foundation Bike Fit studio in Bloomsbury and as a coach at APB.
Mat is also a keen amateur athlete, having completed more triathlons and running races than he’s had hot dinners. Career highlights include qualifying for the Great Britain AG team for the Olympic Distance Triathlon World Championships in 2019 and most importantly, winning the Run Through Olympic Park 5km in Feb 2018 and getting first dibs on the post race flapjacks!
